Aikido Philosophy:
The philosophy of Aikido can mean different things to different people. In an attempt to explain this for the first-time reader, Aikido is an art based on the intent of non-aggression, and non-competition. This means in physical practice "opponents" become "training partners" where both sides (attacker and defender) work to develop within the art together.
Aikido Pronunciation:
"eye" + "key" + "dough"
Explain the differences among Aikido and Judo:
Both arts come from the same tree. Both arts strive to use the opponents weight and momentum to their own advantage. Judo is practiced in competition, Aikido is not. Judo has a ground component to it, where generally Aikido does not go to the ground in training. Modern judo competitors have become bigger and physically stronger at the elite competitive levels which is not applicable to the non-competitive aspect of Aikido. The emphasis is different.
Is there other Aikido schools near me?
There may be other schools in your area. It is always important to do your research before applying for membership at a new school. As a rule of thumb, you should always be able to actually observe the martial arts class/practice before signing up.
Is there an Aikido youtube community:
Of course. There are a plethora of aikido related videos to be found online. However, this never supersedes qualified instruction.
Is Aikido fake:
Aikido isn't "fake." Some may have seen this controversy online. Traditional martial arts is different than what we see in modern cage fighting. Aikido training consists of traditional Japanese methods. This is not to be confused with combat related tactics, or sport competition. The goals are different. All martial arts have their own set of advantages. Aikido trains the Body, Mind, and the Spirt.
